Landscaping & Garden Services in Coventry

Eight services, each one traceable to work Ground Force Gardening Solutions actually take on — not a padded list. From a single hedge cut to a garden rebuilt from bare earth.

Landscaping & Garden Design in Coventry

Full garden projects, from levelling and shaping the ground up to planting and finishing. The complete redesign, not a tidy-up.

A landscaping project is the one job where the groundwork matters more than the planting. Levels, drainage, edges and sub-base all get set before anything visible goes in, because that is what decides whether the garden still looks right in five years. Joe's background is in construction rather than horticulture alone, which is why Ground Force takes on the structural side — the digging, the bases, the retaining edges — as well as the greenery.

What the work covers

  • Measuring up and planning the layout with you
  • Clearing and levelling the existing ground
  • Excavation, sub-base and drainage falls
  • Patios, paths and paved areas
  • Sleeper edging, raised beds and borders
  • Turfing, seeding and new planting
  • Fencing, screening and boundary work
  • Clearing the site and taking the waste away

Listed as “Landscaping projects” on the owner’s own Google post, and “Landscaper” is one of the five trades declared on their MyBuilder profile.

Patios & Paving in Coventry

Indian sandstone, porcelain and block paving, laid on a proper sub-base with the falls set so water runs away from the house.

Most patio failures in Coventry are not about the slabs. They are about what is underneath: too little sub-base, no compaction, or a fall running the wrong way so rainwater sits against the brickwork. A patio laid properly has a compacted MOT sub-base, a full mortar bed rather than five dabs, and a fall of roughly 1 in 80 carrying water out to a border or a channel.

What the work covers

  • Indian sandstone, limestone and porcelain
  • Block paving and brick-edged detailing
  • Lifting and replacing a failed or sunken patio
  • Sub-base excavation and compaction
  • Falls set away from the house and the damp course
  • Paths, steps and stepping-stone runs
  • Pointing, jointing and edge restraints
  • Pressure washing and sealing existing paving

Garden Maintenance & Tidy-Ups in Coventry

Regular visits or a one-off blitz: mowing, edging, weeding, borders and a garden that stays on top of itself.

Maintenance is the least glamorous thing Ground Force do and the thing that keeps a garden worth having. A regular visit costs less over a year than an annual rescue job, because the work stays small: grass cut before it goes to seed, beds weeded before anything sets root, edges kept crisp so the lawn does not creep into the borders.

What the work covers

  • Mowing, striping and edge trimming
  • Weeding beds, borders and gravel
  • Cutting back and dead-heading
  • Border digging and mulching
  • Leaf clearance and seasonal tidies
  • Path, patio and decking sweeps
  • One-off overhauls of an overgrown garden
  • Regular fortnightly or monthly visits

Lawn Care, Turfing & Restoration in Coventry

New turf, re-seeding and the scarifying, aerating and feeding that brings a tired Coventry lawn back.

A thin, mossy lawn is usually compacted rather than dead. Coventry sits on heavy clay in much of the city, which holds water in winter, bakes hard in summer and squeezes the air out of the root zone. Scarifying lifts the thatch, aerating opens the soil back up, and a top dress gives new seed something to root into — often cheaper and better than stripping it and starting again.

What the work covers

  • New turf laid on a prepared, levelled bed
  • Over-seeding and full re-seeding
  • Scarifying to strip out moss and thatch
  • Hollow-tine and solid-tine aeration
  • Top dressing and levelling out hollows
  • Feed, weed and moss treatment programmes
  • Re-cutting lawn edges and shaping
  • Turning a worn patch back into usable lawn

Hedge Cutting & Pruning in Coventry

Hedges brought back to a straight line and kept there, plus shrub and small-tree pruning at the right time of year.

Timing matters more than technique with most hedges. Cut a beech too late and it goes into winter with raw growth; cut a spring-flowering shrub at the wrong point in the year and you remove next season's flowers before they form. Ground Force work to the plant's own cycle rather than the diary, and check for nesting birds before starting — it is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to disturb an active nest.

What the work covers

  • Formal hedge cutting to a set line and height
  • Reducing an overgrown hedge back over seasons
  • Conifer, laurel, privet and beech
  • Shrub pruning, shaping and thinning
  • Fruit-tree and ornamental pruning
  • Crown lifting and light tree work
  • Nesting-bird checks before any cut
  • All arisings chipped or taken away

Fencing & Garden Improvements in Coventry

Close-board, panel and post-and-rail fencing, gates, sleeper edging and the smaller jobs that finish a garden off.

A fence is only as good as its posts. Concrete posts and gravel boards outlast timber on a wet clay boundary and let a damaged panel be swapped out in minutes; timber posts look warmer but need proper depth and a haunched concrete collar to stay upright. Ground Force will say which makes sense for the run rather than fitting the same thing everywhere.

What the work covers

  • Close-board, feather-edge and panel fencing
  • Concrete or timber posts and gravel boards
  • Post-and-rail, picket and trellis
  • Gates hung and rehung
  • Replacing storm-damaged panels
  • Sleeper retaining edges and raised beds
  • Screening, planters and small timber builds
  • Old fencing removed and taken away

Garden Clearance & Waste Removal in Coventry

Overgrown gardens, end-of-tenancy clearances and probate properties cleared back to usable ground, with the waste taken away.

A clearance is the job where photographs do the talking. Brambles, self-seeded sycamore, an old shed and a decade of leaf litter come out, and what is underneath turns out to be a perfectly good garden. Ground Force will tell you before starting what is worth keeping — an established shrub, a fruit tree, a usable path — rather than levelling everything because it is quicker.

What the work covers

  • Overgrown and neglected gardens
  • Bramble, ivy and self-seeded growth
  • End-of-tenancy and pre-sale clearances
  • Probate and empty-property gardens
  • Old sheds, decking and structures removed
  • Green waste and general garden rubbish
  • Weeding and clearing gravel and paving
  • Ground left raked and ready to work with

Pressure Washing in Coventry

Patios, paths, drives and decking taken back to the colour they were, then re-jointed where the sand has washed out.

Pressure washing is mostly about knowing when to stop. Too much pressure on an older sandstone slab strips the surface and leaves it rougher, so it greens over faster next year. The right job is a controlled wash, the joints raked out and re-filled, and a treatment that kills the algae spores rather than just removing what you can see.

What the work covers

  • Patios, paths and steps
  • Block-paved and tarmac driveways
  • Decking and timber
  • Walls, garden furniture and planters
  • Algae, moss and lichen treatment
  • Joints raked out and re-sanded
  • Kiln-dried sand and jointing compound
  • Sealing where the surface suits it

FAQs

Questions about the work itself

Will you give me a fixed price or an hourly rate?

Defined jobs — a patio, a fence run, a clearance — are quoted as a price for the job, so you know the figure before anyone starts. Open-ended work such as a regular maintenance visit is easier to agree as a rate for the visit. Either way you are told which it is before the work is booked.

Do you handle the planning side, or only the labour?

Both. The Ground Force strapline is “garden design and maintenance” and the Facebook page describes Joe Whinnery as a garden design, planning and maintenance specialist. If you know exactly what you want, he will build it. If you only know the problem — a slope you cannot use, a lawn that never dries out — he will work the layout through with you first.

Can you work on a garden with no rear access?

Usually yes, but say so when you enquire because it genuinely changes the job. Everything in and out through the house means boards and sheeting down, smaller loads, and more time — all of which should be in the quote rather than discovered on day one.

Do you work for landlords, agents and commercial properties?

Yes. End-of-tenancy clearances, pre-sale tidies and grounds kept presentable between lets are regular work. Ask about invoicing arrangements when you call.

Not sure which one you need?

Describe the problem rather than the solution — a slope you cannot use, a lawn that never dries out, a fence that keeps blowing over. Ground Force will tell you what the job actually is.
