Landscaping Coventry

A Coventry garden landscaper who does the groundwork too

Most gardening rounds stop where the digging starts. Ground Force do not.

Ground Force Gardening Solutions is a garden restoration, landscaping and maintenance business based in Tile Hill and working right across Coventry. It was founded and is run by Joe Whinnery, who spent eleven years across the construction trades before turning to gardens full time — and that background is the reason the firm takes on level changes, sub-bases, drainage falls and retaining edges rather than sub-contracting them out.

It matters more in this city than you might expect. Much of Coventry sits on heavy Warwickshire clay: it holds water through the winter, shrinks and cracks in a dry summer, and it is unforgiving of a patio bedded on sand or a lawn laid straight onto compacted subsoil. Getting what happens below ground right is what makes the visible part last.

The work runs from a single hedge cut to a garden taken back to bare earth and rebuilt — patios and paving, fencing, turf, planting, clearance and regular maintenance.

What we do

Landscaping and garden services in Coventry

Eight things Ground Force are asked for most. Every one of them is work the business actively takes on.

Landscaping & Garden Design

Full garden projects, from levelling and shaping the ground up to planting and finishing. The complete redesign, not a tidy-up.

Patios & Paving

Indian sandstone, porcelain and block paving, laid on a proper sub-base with the falls set so water runs away from the house.

More on patios & paving

Lawn Care, Turfing & Restoration

New turf, re-seeding and the scarifying, aerating and feeding that brings a tired Coventry lawn back.

Hedge Cutting & Pruning

Hedges brought back to a straight line and kept there, plus shrub and small-tree pruning at the right time of year.

Why Ground Force

What you are actually getting

A qualified professional horticulturalist

The strapline on the Ground Force logo is not decoration. Plant knowledge is what separates a hedge cut at the right point in its cycle from one cut whenever the van was free.

Identity checked and skills assessed

MyBuilder has verified Joe Whinnery's identity and carried out a skill assessment before letting the business take work through the platform. You can see both on their profile.

Eleven years across the construction trades

Ground Force take on groundwork, bases, drainage falls and retaining edges as well as planting — the parts of a garden project a pure gardening round usually sub-contracts out.

Ask about Ground Force Fair Access

Their own initiative, under the line “good gardens should feel more accessible”. Raise it when you call if cost or access is what has been stopping you.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

Nothing starts until you have a price in writing.

  1. You get in touch

Call 07842 544895, email, or leave a callback request. Tell us roughly where you are and what the garden needs.

  2. We come and look

For anything past a grass cut, seeing the garden is the only way to price it honestly — access, levels and ground conditions all change the job.

  3. You get a written quote

Set out job by job, so you can see what is included and compare it properly with anyone else you have asked.

  4. We do the work and clear up

Waste goes with us, the ground is left raked and usable, and you see the garden before we call it finished.

FAQs

Landscaping in Coventry: common questions

Straight answers on price, timing, coverage and what happens next.

How much does landscaping cost in Coventry?

There is no honest single figure, because the same size of garden can differ by thousands depending on what is underneath it. The things that move a landscaping price most are access (whether a barrow can reach the back garden or everything goes through the house), how much spoil has to be dug out and carted away, the level change across the plot, and the material you choose — porcelain costs considerably more than a standard sandstone. Ground Force quote per job after seeing it, and the quote sets out what is included so you can compare it properly against anyone else's.

Do you cover my part of Coventry?

Ground Force are based in Tile Hill and work right across Coventry — Earlsdon, Cheylesmore, Coundon, Binley, Wyken, Allesley, Styvechale, Canley and the rest — plus the surrounding Warwickshire villages and towns such as Kenilworth, Balsall Common, Meriden and Bedworth. The coverage page lists every area in full. If you are just outside it, ring and ask rather than assuming.

Can you take the garden waste away with you?

Yes — clearance and waste removal is one of the trades Ground Force are registered for on MyBuilder, and most jobs are quoted with the arisings included. It is worth confirming when you get your quote, because a full garden clearance generates a surprising volume and it is better priced in from the start than added at the end.

What is the best time of year to lay a patio or re-turf a lawn?

A patio can be laid in almost any month as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged, so winter is often a good time to book: the garden is not in use and the diary is quieter. Turf is different. It roots best in autumn or spring, when the soil is warm and damp; summer turf survives but needs watering every day for weeks, and mid-winter turf sits dormant on cold ground. Seed wants soil above roughly 8°C, so April to early June and September are the reliable windows.

Do you do one-off jobs, or only regular maintenance?

Both. Plenty of customers book a single tidy-up, clearance or patio and that is that. Others have a fortnightly or monthly visit through the growing season and something lighter over winter. There is no contract and no minimum commitment either way — tell Ground Force which suits you.

Who will actually turn up to do the work?

Joe Whinnery, who founded and runs Ground Force Gardening Solutions, with help on larger jobs. He has eleven years behind him across the construction trades, which is why the firm takes on groundwork and hard landscaping as well as planting and maintenance. His identity has been checked and his skills assessed by MyBuilder, and you can see that on their profile.

What is Ground Force Fair Access?

It is the client's own initiative, published on their social channels under the line “good gardens should feel more accessible”. Ground Force ask customers to raise it directly rather than advertising fixed terms for it, so if cost or access is the thing standing between you and getting the garden sorted, mention Fair Access when you call and ask what can be done.

How do I get a quote?

Call 07842 544895 or 024 7718 2011, email groundforcegardeningsolutions@outlook.com, or use the callback form and Ground Force will ring you back. For anything beyond a simple grass cut it is worth arranging a look at the garden — quoting hard landscaping from photographs alone is how people end up with a price that changes halfway through.

Get your garden sorted

Tell Joe Whinnery what the garden needs and he will come and look at it. Callback requests are answered by the person who does the work, not a call centre.
